8 West Street

Description

8 West Street was the home of Seven Wells butchers for almost twenty years and Johnson’s family butchers before that. The retirement by the Knight family and subsequent sale of the building, provided an opportunity to redevelop and repurpose this important building in Oundle Town Centre.

Business plan

To transform the existing ground floor area into two retail units and secure a planning consent for an additional four units in the rear courtyard that are accessible to small businesses.

We envisage

• Making them affordable by not committing occupiers to 3 or 5 year full repairing & insuring leases

• Occupiers rotating their offerings with the seasons

Current status

Stage 1 was completed with the refurbishment of Unit 1, which was immediately let to Savvi Travel, and now provides a valuable family run travel agency service to Oundle residents.

 

Stage 2 has just been completed and encompassed the full refurbishment of Unit 2 with the exciting addition of a new ‘shop’ frontage. The unit has been let to RTK architects.

Stage 3 will rejuvenate the ailing the courtyard to the rear. There are currently a number of dilapidated lean-to buildings which have been built over the last 35 years predominantly to house the fridges and storage facilities required for the butcher shop. These buildings are of poor quality and serve no useful purpose and are therefore essentially redundant. The vision is to reinvigorate this area, adding to the town centre’s current offering of retail units, with a strong link to its historic market town origins.
